About “Love After Lockup” Season 2
The second season of Love After Lockup will follow 6 couples, who fell in love and got engaged while one was incarcerated. We will meet each couple just prior to the jailed partner’s release and follow them on their journey to –potentially –the marriage altar. In S2 the debate between true love v. scam will be even more pronounced, and the “firsts” will be even more abundant--first touch, first kiss, moving in together, meeting the family, etc... Between the stories we follow and the way we follow them (from visually dramatic releases to raw shocking reveals), S2 will amplify the best elements of LAL and take us down new paths of love, mystery, heartbreak, and drama. While each of our couples has their own unique stories, all of them will be going through the same journey over the season—from prison to the altar.

EMMY AND GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD WINNER KELSEY GRAMMER JOINS FOX’S NEW LEGAL DRAMA, “PROVEN INNOCENT”

Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actor Kelsey Grammer (“Cheers, “Frasier,” “Boss”) has joined the cast of FOX’s upcoming drama, PROVEN INNOCENT. Grammer will play GORE BELLOWS, a hard-as-nails and tough-on-crime state’s attorney, who goes up against an underdog legal team committed to reopening investigations to exonerate the innocent who were “proven” guilty. The series is scheduled to premiere midseason.

“The subject matter is very timely and worth exploring; I am excited to be a part of that,” said Grammer.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner and EMPIRE co-creator Danny Strong partners with David Elliot (“Four Brothers”) to tell the emotional story of one woman’s fight for the innocence of others, as well as her own. PROVEN INNOCENT follows a criminal defense firm led by MADELINE SCOTT (Rachelle Lefevre, “Under the Dome,” “A Gifted Man”), a fierce and uncompromising lawyer with a hunger for justice. There is no one who understands the power of setting an innocent person free more than Madeline. At age 18, she was wrongfully convicted, along with her brother, LEVI SCOTT (Riley Smith, “Frequency”), in a sensational murder case that made her an infamous media obsession, a household name and a national cause célèbre.

Madeline runs the firm with her partner, EASY BOUDREAU (Russell Hornsby, “Seven Seconds,” “Grimm”), the very lawyer who helped set her free after ten years in prison. Their team also includes investigator BODIE QUICK (Vincent Kartheiser, “Mad Men”) and communications director VIOLET BELL (Tony Award winner Nikki M. James, “The Good Wife,” “The Book of Mormon”), who runs a true-crime podcast that follows each investigation. While a hero and a victim to some, Madeline’s bold and bullish tactics earn her a number of enemies – especially Gore Bellows (Grammer), the prosecutor who initially put her away and still believes in her guilt. Despite Bellows’ ceaseless quest to see her behind bars again, Madeline will continue to defend others, even as she fights to maintain her innocence and searches for the real killer in her own case.

Kelsey Grammer is known for his two-decade-long portrayal of psychiatrist “Dr. Frasier Crane” on the sitcoms “Cheers,” “Wings” and “Frasier.” He has won six Primetime Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and a SAG Award, and has received an unparalleled 18 Emmy nominations, eight Golden Globe nominations, 16 SAG nominations and a Tony nomination. He has excelled at the highest level in theatre, television and film as an actor, producer and voice actor, most recently in Guillermo del Toro’s animated series, “Trollhunters,” for which he won his sixth Emmy Award.  Grammer is represented by UTA and Link Entertainment.

From 20th Century Fox Television and Danny Strong Productions, PROVEN INNOCENT is executive-produced by Strong, David Elliot and Stacy Greenberg. Elliot wrote the “pilot” episode, which was directed by Patricia Riggen (“The 33,” “Jack Ryan”). “Like” PROVENT INNOCENT on Facebook at facebook.com/InnocentOnFOX. Patti LaBelle (Biography)

Beautiful, simply does not describe the incomparable force known to the world as Patti LaBelle. As time continues to evolve, the soulful songbird’s name has become synonymous with grace, style, elegance and class.  Belting out classic rhythm and blues renditions, pop standards and spiritual sonnets have created the unique platform of versatility that she is known and revered for.

It’s a small wonder that Patti has time for anything else in between recording and touring, but she makes time and the world is oh so happy that she does!  She has written six books, Don’t Block the Blessings, LaBelle Cuisine: Recipes to Sing About, Patti’s Pearls, Patti LaBelle’s Lite Cuisine, Recipes for the Good Life and her most recent, Desserts LaBelle. Several years ago, she introduced Patti’s Good Life, a successful product line that includes a variety of sauces, sweet potato pie, cobblers and cakes. She stars in her own highly rated cooking show, Patti LaBelle's Place, which premiered its second season on the Cooking Channel in 2017.  Additionally, Patti released her first jazz album, Bel Hommage, and a holiday album, Patti LaBelle and Friends - Home for the Holidays, in 2017.

World renowned for her dynamic career as an entertainer and entrepreneurial success, Patti’s work as a humanitarian is just as legendary. She remains an advocate for adoption, diabetes, cancer, HIV / AIDS and many other causes and non-profit initiatives.  While she has reached the heights of success throughout her 50-plus year career, Patti has also endured and survived personal strife. Within a ten-year period, she lost her mother, three sisters and best friend to diabetes and cancer. In 1994, she was diagnosed with diabetes and shortly thereafter became a spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association.

The same motivation that had Patricia Louise Holte blossom from a choir member to lead vocalist for Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles and later Labelle, to a solo artist is the same energy that keeps her fire burning at seventy-three years young. “Each year I grow, and that’s a blessing from God.  I do what I can do.  I do what I feel God has given me the energy to do, so I just go out there and I do it…It’s not about making money because I don’t need money, but I need to sing.  With a voice or without, I’ve got to get on that stage.”  And the world is thankful that Patti’s voice sounds so good to our ears.

About “Greenleaf”

“Greenleaf” takes viewers into the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch, where scandalous secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful.  The series centers on the journey of estranged daughter and disillusioned preacher Grace Greenleaf (Merle Dandridge, “The Night Shift”) who has returned home after 20 years on the occasion of the mysterious death of her sister, Faith.  As she reenters the world of Calvary Fellowship World Ministries, the Memphis megachurch run by her powerful parents Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David, “Community”) and Lady Mae Greenleaf (Lynn Whitfield, “The Josephine Baker Story”), it becomes evident that things are not as virtuous as they seem and that the family’s outward display of faith hides sin and misdeeds.  The series also stars Deborah Joy Winans (“Whitney”), Kim Hawthorne (“Switched at Birth”), Tye White (“The People Vs. O.J. Simpson”), Rick Fox (“Dope”), Desiree Ross (“Falling Skies”) and Lovie Simone.

The three-hour musical event stars Emmy Award nominee Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live,” “Bridesmaids”), two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick (“How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying,” “The Producers,” “Manchester by the Sea”), Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “30 Rock”), Emmy Award nominee Chris Diamantopoulos (“Good Girls Revolt,” “Silicon Valley,” “Episodes”), Ana Gasteyer (“Saturday Night Live”) and newcomer Andy Walken.

Marc Platt is the Executive Producer of the program. He is the Emmy Award-winning producer of FOX’s “Grease: Live.” He is an Academy Award-nominated producer, most recently for director Damien Chazelle's “La La Land” and Steven Spielberg's “Bridge of Spies.” Platt is also the Tony-nominated producer of the Broadway mega-hit “Wicked,” which has been seen by more than 50 million fans worldwide and globally has racked up $4 billion. Platt has developed some of the most successful film, theater and television projects of the last 30 years. His film resume also includes such titles as “Legally Blonde,” “Into the Woods,” “Drive,” “Rachel Getting Married,” “Scott Pilgrim” and “Wanted.” A former film executive, Platt served as president of production for three movie studios, where he oversaw box office and critical successes, including “Philadelphia,” “Rudy,” “As Good As It Gets,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Jerry Maguire” and “The Silence of the Lambs.”

We talked to Marc, and here are the excerpts:

Art Shrian: Hi, Marc.  How are you doing?

Marc Platt:    Good.  How are you?

AS: Great.  Thank you for taking the time.  I just wanted to share that growing up in India as a non-Christian, we always loved Christmas and A Christmas Story, so I’m so excited for this to be coming soon.

As a storyteller, I know you talked a little bit about it, but if you could talk a little bit more about that, why do you think that A Christmas Story as a film and as a production—many Christmas films have such a wide reach beyond boundaries worldwide and to everybody, and why these stories connect with people and how that was important for you as a storyteller to make sure that that essence remains and it speaks to everyone.

MP:    Well, it’s somewhat what I said, I don’t celebrate Christmas either, by the way, but I celebrate the holiday season because it’s a time of connectivity and connection and family and tradition, whatever your traditions are, it yields that feeling and that warmth and I think all people yearn for that.  What makes A Christmas Story universal, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, is that feeling of I recognize that family.  I recognize when the brothers don’t get along but they really love each other, or when mom and dad have a fight and then they make up.  Or when disaster strikes, and the dinner is ruined they find a way as a family to get through it.  The one thing that I wanted the most and I get, and I always thought my dad wasn’t listening, but he was.  I think those are very universal, relatable ideas that are found in the movie that are centered around Christmas, which is why I think it’s so beloved.

The other thing about A Christmas Story that distinguishes it from all the other beloved Christmas films is that it’s not sentimental.  Most Christmas films are wonderful, by the way, and I love so many of them, they’re very sentimental and they wear that sentiment on their sleeve.  If you think of It’s a Wonderful Life, which is just a magnificent film, it was very sentimental.

A Christmas Story sort of undercuts that and was the unsentimental Christmas Story.  There is tremendous sentiment underneath it because ultimately it is about a family connecting, a family being glued together through the holiday season, parents who love their children, and a grownup remembering what it was like to be loved by his family and his parents.

But it’s not done in a sentimental way, the film, and that’s what sort of made it so original, and it’s funny, it’s subversive.  Just when you think it’s the perfect holiday dinner, the dogs eat the turkey and you have to go out for Chinese food.  It sort of undercuts and takes a left turn away from every Christmas movie, but the feeling is honestly exactly the same.

And what the musical did so brilliantly is it brought out the sentiment that was in the subtext and it put it in the music, and if you don’t know the musical, that’s what you’ll experience in the telecast.  You will laugh, you’ll see where it’s funny, you’ll see where it goes a left turn from every other Christmas movie, but at the end of the day you’re going to feel a warmth, and you’re going to feel a nostalgia and you’re going to feel comfort and a lot of that does come from the music.

AS: Thank you. I also want to congratulate you on the wonderful casting and the diversity of cast as well with Maya and Ken and David, which people may not expect, but they’re amazing performers and they’re also part of this diverse cast.  So, congratulations, I’m really excited.

MP: Well, thank you for that and of course they are.  Like I said, A Christmas Story is a universal story, and although it takes place in a particular period, in the 1940s, it’s a story and a family that feels like it’s a family from today.  So, we wanted to make sure that our world and our Christmas Story reflected the world that we live in.

Art: Congratulations, And  thank you.

MP:  You bet.

Don’t miss the all-new holiday musical event A CHRISTMAS STORY LIVE! airing Sunday, Dec. 17 (7:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.
